Lindsey Vonn, the American skiing superstar, won the third Olympic medal of her career, but it was a bronze, not a gold, in the downhill. Vonn finished behind Sofia Goggia, the first Italian woman to win the downhill, and Ragnhild Mowinckel of Norway. Shortly after her run, Vonn, 33, became emotional when asked about her future. “It’s sad, I love what I do, but my body just probably can’t take another four years,” she told NBC. “It’s tough to contemplate this being my last Olympic downhill. I struggled to keep it all together, but I left it all on the mountain. I’d have loved a gold medal, but honestly, I’m so proud.”

Shaun White stood at the top of the 2018 Winter Olympics Games halfpipe Wednesday morning, needing the run of his life. This was the bottom of the ninth, two outs, full count. White was the last rider of the competition. If he failed to top the 95.25 score turned in by Ayumu Hirano of Japan, he’d earn a silver. For the first time in his life, White landed back-to-back 1440s, a maneuver that requires four full aerial revolutions to help secure the win. White had never even practiced this combo. But Hirano had pulled it off in his second run. White knew he needed it in order to win. He rejuvenated himself for PyeongChang. But his comeback almost got derailed when he smashed his face into the lip of a frozen halfpipe in October, a gruesome accident that required 62 stitches. He could have hung up his snowboard, having accomplished everything he could in his sport. White even contemplated retirement after the injury and claimed he lost some of his love for the support. ...

The United States men's team won't be one of the favorites in  Pyeongchang, with Canada, Sweden and Russia boasting strong rosters. But it wasn't the favorite in 1980, either, and that team will live on forever. The conditions may be a little bit different this time, but a United States men's gold medal this year would nevertheless be an upset. Former NHLers  Brian Gionta, Mark Arcobello ,   Jim Slater, James Wisniewski   and   Matt Gilroy, among others, are the headliners, while fans will get a chance to see some up-and-coming college talents in  Troy Terry, Jordan Greenway,  Ryan Donato and Will Borgen.

Billy Morgan has been in the snowboarding world for many years but is still a star throughout the UK. He was the first ever to land the quad cork 1800 ( https://youtu.be/kBYzGl-yIKM ). He is setting his goals this winter olympics on GOLD. He is focusing his time on qualifying for the slopestyle competition. Billy has been creating a new national pride within the U.K. snowboarding culture and within the winter sports world. Sadly in 2015, he tore his ACL and worked super hard to get back into to Olympic shape. He does feel ready to compete at the highest level and be able to take home the gold medal.
